WELCOME TO GARAGE CINEMA RESEARCH

Garage Cinema Research is a research group directed by Professor Marc Davis at UC Berkeley's School of Information that is focused on creating the technology and applications that will enable daily media consumers to become daily media producers. Professor Davis' research and teaching encompass the theory, design, and development of digital media systems for creating and using media metadata to automate media production, sharing, and reuse.

Our research team at UC Berkeley has over 30 members with interdisciplinary strengths in information science, computer science, media theory and production, social science and ethnography, web design and information architecture, and human computer interaction design. We welcome interested students to apply to join Garage Cinema Research.

Prof. Davis and the members of Garage Cinema Research are active partcipants in many academic and industrial research communities where we publish and present our research that is shaping the future of Internet media.

We are also actively involved in making UC Berkeley a global center for innovation in New Media research through our particpation in the UC Berkeley Center for New Media of which Prof. Davis is a Co-Founder and Executive Board member.
